The Baby Friendly Initiative is a programme of UNICEF UK, which is a registered charity. A charge is therefore made for assessments, site visits, training courses and other activities. The Initiative does not make a profit – it simply aims to cover the costs of running the programme. For costs associated with assessments, please see the costs and charging section of our website.
Baby Friendly's report, Preventing disease and saving resources: the potential contribution of increasing breastfeeding rates in the UK, found that moderate increases in breastfeeding would translate into cost savings for the NHS of many millions, and tens of thousands of fewer hospital admissions and GP consultations.
