There are lots of ways that you can invite people to your event. The more the merrier and the more money you raise!

Good old fashioned posters
You can order our UNICEF posters or make your own and put them up where people can see them.  If you ask permission, you may be able to put your poster up in your local library, your school and even your local coffee shop or leisure centre!

Invite people personally, if you send personal invite to your event you may find that more people come along.

You can invite people to your event by:

  • Email
  • Social networking sites (see pg for more info)
  • In person – tell your friends!
  • On the phone
  • Or by post – send a lovely letter or design invitations

Top tips

  • Make sure the invite includes the time and date of the event and where it is
  • Keep a list of who replies so that you can remind them about it nearer the time.

Use Social Networking
If you use social networking sites such as Facebook or Twitter, you can use your pages to spread the word about your event. Invite all your online friends to your event or to sponsor you and give them updates about how your event is going. You can add links to the UNICEF website for more information and a link to your My Fundraising Page.  If you are not old enough to use a social networking site then there are lots of other ways to tell people about your event – why not colour in the posters available here and put them up in your school?

Setting up a My Fundraising Page
If you are fundraising through challenging yourself (maybe through a sponsored walk, swim or cycle)you might want to set up an online page.  As well as using the paper sponsorship forms (available here)you can have your very own fundraising page – with your photo, blog, target and a description about what you are doing.  Your friends and family can then look at your page and donate directly to it – making it really easy to collect your sponsorship money!

Here is how you do it:

  1. Go to our fundraising site
  2. Click create an account
  3. Fill in your details
  4. Add your pictures, quotes and target
  5. Send your page to all your friends and family and watch the donations come in!

It might be a good idea to get a parent or guardian to help you with this and if you have any questions about setting up your page you can email myfundraising@unicef.org.uk or call our friendly helpdesk on 0844 801 2414

Fill in a press release
Another exciting way to tell lots of people about your fundraising is to tell your local newspaper or radio station. You can do this by writing a ‘press release’ which is a piece of writing that summarises your event and gives details of when and where it is.  We have designed a template so all you have to do is fill in the details. Once you have filled it in you can send it to your local media and hopefully get your fundraising event featured in the local media!

If you need any help with this you can contact us by emailing fundraisinghelp@unicef.org.uk
