An introduction by Theresa Anderson

The East Kent Group was formed in 1986 and since that time we have raised in excess of £120,000 for various UNICEF projects.

We are a small, friendly, diverse group from all walks of life. Our aim is to have fun at our fundraising events and ensure our supporters enjoy themselves whilst raising as much money as possible for UNICEF. Over the years we have organised events such as a Dickens evening at Kent and Canterbury University, mini markets, Open Gardens Day and an evening choral concert in the village of Barham, a shopper’s Christmas lunch and sale in Canterbury, a wine and wisdom quiz evening, carol singing plus shaking tins at local Supermarkets and the usual coffee mornings, etc.  We have also given talks to local groups to help raise the profile of UNICEF.

We try to raise funds for specific UNICEF projects so that our supporters are aware of just where their donations are going. Our project for last year was Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) at HIV clinics in Mozambique and this year we are supporting projects in Ghana.

We meet once a month at a committee member’s home and are always happy to welcome new faces.

If you would like more information about any of the groups in England or would like to set up your own, please email groups@unicef.org.uk or phone 020 7375 6110 for further information. New members are always welcome.
