Ten-year-old Adam Syed and his sister Ada (12) from Hertfordshire have raised well over £3,000 for children in East Africa by fasting for the whole month of Ramadan for the very first time.

"Adam and I decided to fundraise for UNICEF’s East Africa Emergency appeal when we saw the children in Africa suffering from hunger on TV", said Ada. "It made us so sad so we came up with the idea to do our own bit to raise money."

Following the worst drought for 50 years, malnourished children desperately need help. UNICEF is the biggest provider of life-saving food for malnourished children in East Africa. But we need more funds to make sure they get the food, clean water and healthcare they need to survive for the next six months.

"I have a choice not to eat for a while but the children in Africa have no choice", said Adam. "By fasting during the day it makes me think about what they are going through. After I reach my goal, I hope even more people donate to help all the children in Africa who are dying of hunger."
