UNICEF staff are on standby following a high-magnitude earthquake off the western coast of Indonesia.

Although the tsunami warning has now been lifted, staff at our Banda Aceh office are still monitoring the situation of children, who represent a third of those affected by the quake.

UNICEF's priority is to ensure that the children and families affected have access to clean water, food, shelter and sanitation.

Once families have been moved to safety, UNICEF Indonesia staff will be monitoring the risk of children becoming separated from their families.
