Right now, all over the world, UNICEF staff are bringing hope to children threatened by disease, violence and poverty. These photos show just some of the children whose lives we have touched, thanks to our supporters.

Emergencies - Democratic Republic of Congo. At camps across the country UNICEF helps supply shelter and clean water for children, like this brother and sister, who are fleeing the fighting.

Malnutrition - Somalia. In the drought-stricken southern part of the country, a girl waits patiently at an emergency feeding station run by UNICEF.

Education - Haiti.  A teacher distributes UNICEF exercise books to children in a packed tent school, on the first day of classes after the devastating earthquake.

Malnutrition - Ethiopia.  At a UNICEF supported health centre a pack of highly nutritious Plumpy'nut® paste gives Mare - weighing only 5.7 kilograms, the vitamins and nutrients he desperately needs.

AIDS - Uganda.  Charles, only 13 years old, lost his mother to AIDS. The local Child Protection Committee, trained by UNICEF, supported him in caring for his siblings – as well as supporting Charles himself.

Emergencies - Mozambique. After Cyclone Favio destroyed the local hospital, a toddler is weighed among the temporary wards set up in tents supplied by UNICEF.

Survival - Benin. Madeline’s young son sips oral rehydration salts provided by UNICEF to help him recover from dehydration caused by diarrhoea, which kills millions of children like him each year.

Education - Rwanda. A girl does geometry on the blackboard at the UNICEF supported Umubano Il Primary School in the town of Gisenyi in Western Province.  More than half of the school's 800 students are girls.  UNICEF supplies educational supplies and supports teacher-training at the child-friendly school.

Water and sanitation - Pakistan. A girl brushes her teeth at a 'child-friendly' girls' school on the outskirts of Quetta, capital of the southern province of Balochistan. UNICEF provides the school with educational and recreational supplies, hygiene kits, water and sanitation facilities and a teacher-training programme.
