It was with great sadness that we lost Lord Ashdown at the close of 2018. Supporting UNICEF UK for over 8 years as President and Ambassador, Paddy Ashdown was a passionate advocate for children everywhere and a friend to us all.

Paddy became a UNICEF UK Ambassador in January 2016, after six years as President of UNICEF UK.

During that time he worked tirelessly to support our work and was an incredibly powerful and committed advocate for children’s rights. He visited UNICEF programmes first hand all over the world, including Ethiopia, South Africa and Liberia.

Most recently in 2014, Lord Ashdown visited Bangladesh to see how UNICEF programmes were helping to protect children and families from ill-health due to respiratory diseases, and saw a swimming project where children are taught how to get to safety during severe flooding.

I am so proud of my involvement with Unicef and with all of you. It is one of the most worthwhile things I have done in my life and I have enjoyed it immensely. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.
