UNICEF is committed to ensuring that every child has the right to participate in play, recreation and sport in a safe and healthy environment, as outlined in Article 31 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Sport is being used in UNICEF country programming to help achieve the Millennium Development Goals and to address key issues affecting children and young people throughout the world. Through partnership programmes such as International Inspiration, UNICEF UK is working with communities and government bodies to use sport as a method of addressing key local issues through high quality sport and play initiatives.

Leading sports organisations such as Beyond Sport are also working with UNICEF UK to assess how sport can be used as a tool within communities to drive social change. Furthermore, top sports teams such as Manchester United and Rangers are joining hands with UNICEF UK in a bid to raise vital funds and awareness for UNICEF’s work worldwide.
