Ana Ivanovic, former world number 1 Serbian tennis player, has donated funds for the "School without Violence" Programme in Serbia, enabling three additional schools in the country to begin to implement this programme, namely: the Vladimir Rolovic primary school in Belgrade, the Desanka Maksimovic primary school in Kovin, and the Vera Radosavljevic primary school in Negotin.
"This is a great honour for me to be invited to be UNICEF Ambassador," said Ivanovic. "I love children, and I relish this opportunity to help them in some small way. I’m looking forward to supporting UNICEF’s ‘child-friendly schools’ concept. Serbia is already on a good way in this respect thanks to UNICEF's activities. I will give my contribution and hope that it will add up to the positive changes that are occurring for children in Serbia."
Ivanovic has joined two other UNICEF National Ambassadors in Serbia – Aleksandar Sasa Djordjevic, famous basketball player with national and international reputation, appointed in 2005, and Emir Kusturica, world famous film director who joined UNICEF in 2002. Ivanovic’s colleague, Jelena Jankovic, will also become a National Ambassador for UNICEF in Serbia and will be officially appointed upon her return to the country.
