Denise Lewis is supporting UNICEF projects, as part of International Inspiration, London 2012’s international legacy programme for children and young people.
"The magic of the Olympics is something that has captivated me since I was a child," Denise says. "Since I first saw an athletics track, I dreamed of the day that I would compete for my country. I was fortunate enough to fulfill that dream."
In December 2009, Denise travelled to India and visited schools and small farming communities in rural backwaters of Chandrapur. In Delhi, Denise met with Community Sport Coaches who demonstrated their work with rural and urban slum dwelling children.
"Sport is so important to help children grow," she says. "You gain in confidence and self-esteem and it gives you leadership qualities and teaches you teamwork. They are lessons you take with you through your life."
