UNICEF Spain and FC Barcelona kicked off their first five-year partnership in September 2006 to raise awareness and funds to benefit children affected by HIV and AIDS.  Every year for five years, the club has donated €1.5 million per year to help fund projects aimed at combating HIV and AIDS in Africa and Latin America.

Along with the funding, the football club featured the UNICEF logo on its 2006-2007 jersey, the first placement of its kind in the club’s 107-year history.

In 2011 the agreement was renewed for a further five years, and FC Barcelona pledged to continue to annually donate  €1.5 million, to implement projects based on the promotion of education through sport. The renewal of the agreement also included the UNICEF logo on the back of the FC Barcelona football shirt.

From 2006 to 2011 the programs implemented have helped in the fight against AIDS, principally in three African countries: Swaziland, Malawi and Angola.
