UNICEF UK wants to improve children’s rights in the UK. Our Education team works with local authorities and schools to establish the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA).

Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA)

The Education team provides support and guidance for the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA). The RRSA seeks to put a children’s rights approach at the heart of a school’s culture and ethos to help all children realise their potential.

The award focuses on four areas of school practice:

  • rights-respecting values underpin leadership and management
  • the whole-school community learns about the CRC
  • establishing a rights-respecting ethos
  • empowering children to become active citizens and learners

After 16 years as a headteacher...I cannot think of anything else we have introduced that has had such an impact.

Teaching resources

UNICEF UK have developed a wide range of educational resources, assemblies, lesson plans and activities, developed within a framework of rights and responsibilities to support schools. Our resources cover all ages groups and a range of curriculum areas. To see a full list visit the Education resources section.

Day for Change

For more than 20 years, schools across the UK have held an annual Day for Change, learning about and raising money for children around the world. In exchange for making a change for that day – for instance, wearing fancy dress, a sponsored water walk, or a cake sale – parents, children and teachers make a donation to improve education and health for children.
