In 2011, political violence in Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) caused over 500,000 people to flee their homes, the majority of whom were women and children.

Food and safe water and sanitation facilites are scarce in Côte d'Ivoire, as the state struggles to provide basic services.

UNICEF works in Ivory Coast to deliver vital health, education and water and sanitation programmes, such as vaccination campaigns, treatment for malnutrition and delivering school-in-a-box kits so children can continue their education.

In 2011, more than 1.7 million children were vaccinated against measles and other illnesses by UNICEF.
