This year is the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The CRC sets out the rights that every child is entitled to, including the right to a childhood free from poverty. Yet, despite the UK being one of the richest countries in the world, there are 4 million children in this country living in poverty. In 1998, the UK government promised to halve child poverty by 2010 and eradicate it by 2020. Together, we can help keep this promise and uphold every child’s right to a childhood. For 4 million UK children, this would mean a life without poverty. The Campaign to End Child Poverty has designed and costed a targeted recession recovery package to help families living in poverty. Please ask your MP to write to the Chancellor and ask him to take further measures in his Budget next spring in order to drive forward the target of ending child poverty by 2020.
