Check Out for Children is the global fundraising partnership between UNICEF and Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Since its launch in November 1995, the programme has raised over US $21 million, helping UNICEF to immunise 1 million children against preventable disease.
Check Out for Children gives every guest at Starwood Hotels the opportunity to support UNICEF's work through the addition of US $1 (or its equivalent in another currency) to their bill. Materials produced by UNICEF, containing information about the programme, are presented to guests at various points during their stay in a Starwood Hotel. A special feature outlining the benefits of Check Out for Children is also available to guests through Starwood’s Guest TV Channel.
Any guest not wishing to donate merely informs reception accordingly. Guests wishing to make a larger donation are invited to contact any member of the front office staff.
Since 1995, donations from Check Out for Children have helped to immunise over one million children in countries such as India, Zimbabwe, Peru, Georgia, Iraq, Ethiopia, China, Gambia and Gabon.
Since March 2008, Check Out for Children in Europe, Africa and the Middle East will support the following new areas of UNICEF’s work:
