Why should I run for UNICEF?

UNICEF is the world’s largest children’s rights organisation, working in 156 countries and territories to help every child reach their full potential; we are supported entirely by voluntary funds.

In spite of our global presence, we have a relatively small presence at the Flora London Marathon. We have 17 Golden Bond places, and last year had an additional 21 people running for us who obtained their own place in the ballot. We are hoping that this number will grow every year. UNICEF is committed to sending as much money as possible out to our field offices, ensuring that they have enough funding for their programmes to provide health, education and protection for children. This means that we don’t have the resources to offer tempting prizes and luxurious benefits for runners. What we do provide is a small team to support you throughout the process. Plus:

  • Information on UNICEF and our work, and the difference you and your sponsors will make.
  • A post-race reception near the finish (TBC).
  • Information on our latest campaign, so you can explain what you are running for and how people can help.
  • Fundraising tips and advice so you can make the most of your sponsors.
  • A sponsorship and gift aid form.
  • A secure online sponsorship facility, allowing you to keep track of your fundraising online and for your sponsors to offer support and leave you a message.
  • A press release template so you can promote your good work around your office and your community.
  • A UNICEF running vest, personalised with your name.
  • Cheering points and refreshments for family and friends on the day.
  • Most importantly, we provide you with the opportunity to make a real difference to children around the world through your physical effort in running the Marathon and your fundraising effort in collecting sponsorship.

The UNICEF Gold Bond application process has been open since August and will close on 1 December and places will be allocated from December onwards. To apply for a Golden Bond place, or register your interest in becoming an own place runner, please call 0870 606 3377 or email marathon@unicef.org.uk with your full postal address so that we can send you the application pack. Demand for places is high, so please take time to fill in the application form as places are awarded on the merit of this form.
