Other school fundraising events
Schools can involve pupils in fundraising for UNICEF in a variety of other ways. Events staged by schools for UNICEF range from school concerts and boot fairs to sports days and sponsored silences. There are lots of simple ways to raise vital funds to help children around the world:
- Invite your pupils and staff to make a donation in exchange for wearing different clothes to school. Or why not be more innovative and wear hats, wigs or slippers … the choice is yours.
- Invite pupils to make dishes from different countries and bring them to school for others to taste and buy. Favourite cakes are also an option! The internet provides lots of recipes.
- Hold a school quiz for pupils, teachers or parents. Why not try something more unusual like a raffle where the main prize is to exhange places with the headteacher for a day? A school in Derbyshire did this and the winner joined staff meetings while the headteacher sat at the pupil’s desk in lessons!
- Organise a talent show and ask for donations from the audience. Comedians, dancers and musicians can all get involved and you never know, you may discover the next big thing.
- Sponsored activities always work well as only a few pence can add up to a considerable amount of money per pupil, and pupils enjoy the challenge. Here are some ideas that schools carried out: treasure hunt where pupils collect a set list of items (e.g. a button, a feather, a leaf, etc) and are sponsored for each item they collect; helping Hands where children carry out simple chores and get sponsored for each completed task. The tasks themselves can vary according to age groups and can include helping to carry shopping, tidying their bedrooms, washing dishes, etc.
