Day for Change 2007
Your school can be part UNICEF’s Day for Change in 2007. This is a fun and educational fundraising event, where pupils get the chance to do something different in exchange for making a small donation to UNICEF.
Schools do all sorts of things: fancy dress; “wear a silly hat” day; dressing up in colours of different flags, or simply a non-uniform day. Visit our photo gallery on Day for Change 2006 to get some ideas for what you could do.
Raising funds for Kenya
In 2007 schools will be raising money for education projects in Kenya. Education brings dramatic social benefits for future generations. The impact of quality education extends beyond the children: they can help their families with essential day-to-day tasks like reading bills or medical prescriptions.
Day for Change officially takes place on Friday 2 February 2007, but you can choose another day that suits you. The most important thing is that you put it in your school’s diary now!
Free education pack, with CD-ROM
After registering, participating schools will receive our FREE education pack with posters, case studies and curriculum-linked activities. The pack contains a CD with a photo library and assemblies, as well as PowerPoint presentations that you can use at your Day for Change assembly. It also includes fundraising ideas to make sure you make the most of your day. See a more detailed list of what the pack contains.
Visit the UNICEF Supply Division warehouse… in person
Have you ever wondered how UNICEF is able to respond to emergencies so quickly? Two schools will have the chance to pick two pupils and a teacher to visit our Supply Division warehouse in Copenhagen. They will see how school-in-a-box kits are assembled, how tents and vaccines are stored, and learn how these are quickly sent to vulnerable children around the world, to meet their health, education and protection needs. All you need to do is send in your Day for Change donations to UNICEF before 28 February 2007 and your school will be entered into a prize draw for this fabulous opportunity.
Visit www.unicef.org/supply for more information on UNICEF’s Supply Division.
Why raise funds for Education in Kenya?
Kenya established free primary education in 2003. The number of children in school increased by 1.5 million, but there are still an estimated 1.7 million children here who do not go to school, either because they cannot afford their uniform and transport, because they have to work or simply because their schools are too far from where they live.
UNICEF supports education in many ways: by providing text books and teaching materials; by facilitating teacher training to ensure quality education for children; by supporting programmes so that even more children can go to school, such as classes for working children; and by establishing mobile schools, where the teacher travels with a nomadic community.
