Support children affected by emergencies with 'Time to Reflect'

A small girl, squatting on the porch of her house, eats rice from a metal bowl in Sawa Khola Village, Mugu District, Nepal. Price hikes in Nepal have rendered basic food items unaffordable and many children are forced to work instead of going to school.  © UNICEF/NYHQ2009-0892/Sokol

At the turn of the last decade, British photographer Alistair Morrison started a project called “Time to Reflect”. Using a photo booth, he asked hundreds of celebrities, including UNICEF Ambassadors, to take their own pictures and write messages of hope and reflection for the new millennium.

Alistair, a supporter of UNICEF, donated a percentage of sales from the images and a book produced for the millennium to help children around the world. Ten years on, he has revived the “Time to Reflect” project, with proceeds from the sale and syndication of images going to UNICEF’s Children’s Emergency Fund.

The Children’s Emergency Fund enables UNICEF to respond for children the moment a disaster strikes.

It also allows us to help children affected by “forgotten” emergencies, which rarely make it into the media spotlight.

All children have rights based on what they need to survive and thrive. Yet for children living in countries affected by these emergencies even the most basic rights, such as the right to be healthy and the right to an education, may be denied.

UNICEF continues to work tirelessly in countries such as Yemen, Tajikistan, Somalia, Nepal, Afghanistan, and Haiti to uphold the rights of children affected by ongoing and often forgotten emergencies. With your help, we can provide support including health kits, food, education and protection.

As we move into a new decade, please ensure that these children's rights are no longer forgotten. Donate to the Children’s Emergency Fund and help us to protect the rights of children affected by emergencies, wherever they are.
