Six months on, the situation for children in Haiti remains critical

It’s been six months since the devastating earthquake hit Haiti, bringing tragedy to the lives of thousands of people there. Life for families who survived the disaster is still hard; around 800,000 children are living in temporary camps. With people living in such close proximity and on average only 1 latrine between 145 people, the threat of disease spreading is dangerously high.

Despite this UNICEF have been able to make real progress for children in Haiti thanks to the overwhelming support we have received. As a result of our work alongside our partners in Haiti, over 1.5 million people are now receiving safe water every day, 62,800 children are benefiting from recreational activities and psychosocial support to help them recover from the trauma they've experienced, and over 500,000 children have received educational materials.

But we still have a long way to go to ensure that the rights of every child in Haiti are protected.

Our priorities now include:

Six months on, the need for your support is heightened by the onset of the hurricane season. We are working to prepare families and restock our emergency supplies so that we can continue to be there for children in Haiti for as long as they need us.

Please donate to UNICEF’s Haiti Earthquake Children’s Appeal to help us to continue to rebuild the lives of Haiti’s children.

Your donation will go to the Haiti Earthquake Children’s Appeal to support children affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti.

If the funds raised exceed UNICEF’s funding requirements for this emergency‚ the money will go to UNICEF’s Children’s Emergency Fund.
