UNICEF UK welcomed today’s announcement that Personal, Social and Health Education will be made a compulsory part of the school curriculum.
In particular, the leading children’s organisation applauds the Government’s plans to support teachers to provide appropriate classroom teaching on sex and relationships for Primary and Secondary Schools.
"Young people have the right to know how to protect their sexual health and it is essential that information is given in a way that responds to young people’s needs and lives," Alison Marshall, Head of Public Affairs at UNICEF UK said. "Last year research conducted by the UK Youth Parliament found that nationally 40 per cent of young people between the ages of 11 and 18 thought that their Sex and Relationship Education was either poor or very poor."
