We call on all political parties to implement all the recommendations made by the UN Committee for the Rights of the Child published in October 2008. Specifically, UNICEF UK calls on all political parties to:
- Make the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child part of UK law
- Listen to children and young people
- End child poverty by 2020
- Roll out the Rights Respecting Schools Award to all schools
- Protect victims of child trafficking and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children
- Improve sexual health services and resources for young people
- Improve breastfeeding rates
We call on all political parties to promote integrated policies that support the rights of children and to demonstrate strong leadership to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Specifically, we call on political parties to:
- Keep our promise to deliver aid
- Prioritise HIV prevention for young people
- Take urgent action to reduce the impact of climate change on children
- Champion water and sanitation as key development issues
- Support mothers and children, reduce child and maternal mortality
