Team UNICEF in 2010 will be raising funds for our Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS campaign, supporting children living with and/or affected by HIV and AIDS.
Almost every minute of every day, a child dies because of AIDS and another two young people are infected with HIV.
The threats posed by HIV and AIDS are redefining childhood. In 2007, 270,000 children under the age of 15 died because of AIDS. Millions more have been robbed of their parents, their childhood and their hopes.
HIV is increasingly a disease of the young, particularly girls. Despite the already catastrophic impacts of HIV and AIDS, worse may yet be to come.
Even so, HIV is both preventable and treatable. The Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS campaign has four key actions for children:
• Prevention of new infections
• Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT)
• Providing treatment for children
• Protection, care and support
By being part of Team UNICEF you will be responsible for changing the fate of generations of children and helping to prevent the HIV/AIDS epidemic spreading even further. For more information visit our Unite Campaign pages.
For those of you who don’t want to wait until May 2010 there are also lots of other runs throughout the UK and abroad which you may be interested in. Please look at our page of events for runners to find more.
