  • On 24 May 2006 Prime Minister Tony Blair hosted a reception at Downing Street for Soccer Aid celebrities and football legends from both the “England” and the “Rest of the World” teams as well as UNICEF Ambassador and Soccer Aid supporter Ewan McGregor. View footage from this reception here.

The Soccer Aid TV programme included six films featuring UNICEF Ambassadors and long-standing supporters telling the stories of children whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS, malaria, malnutrition, lack of education, lack of clean water and abandonment. These films are available to view below .

  • Robbie Williams saw UNICEF’s work in South Africa to support children who have lost their mums and dads because of AIDS.
  • David Beckham recorded a film about Malaria at Bernabeu stadium in Madrid. Every month 80,000 people die from malaria, the same number as watch Real Madrid each week.
  • Ewan McGregor travelled to Malawi to see UNICEF’s response to the food shortage – ensuring that children receive enough of the right foods.
  • James Nesbitt saw UNICEF’s work in Zambia to ensure children, especially girls receive an education.
  • Elle Macpherson saw UNICEF’s work in Ukraine to prevent children from being abandoned by their mothers.
  • Paul Bettany saw UNICEF’s work in Mozambique to ensure children have access to clean water.
