Soccer Aid projects

Projects supported by Soccer Aid

Soccer Aid raised funds for UNICEF through donations from the public, money generously donated by Endemol from ticket and programme sales and from ITV’s competition and voting line on the shows. UNICEF needs to fundraise as it is unique within the UN family in that it does not receive any funding from the United Nations.

The funds raised by Soccer Aid went to support specific projects, highlighted below, which are run by UNICEF and delivered with its partners.

UNICEF works through local staff in the field and by supporting many carefully selected partner organisations. We currently run programmes for children in over 150 countries.

Projects being supported by Soccer Aid - almost £2 million spent so far:

Why is Soccer Aid supporting these areas?

Every day
6,000 children are orphaned by AIDS
and we buy
£90,000 worth of medicine for parents and children living with HIV/AIDS

Every day
3,000 children are killed by malaria
and we buy
around 20,000 mosquito nets to protect families at risk.

Every day
65 million girls do not go to school
and last year
UNICEF sent educational supplies to help nine million children go back to school. That is 25,000 children a day.

Every day
Nearly 6,000 children are killed by diarrhoea
and every day
we distribute around 130,000 water purification tablets.

Every day
Malnutrition contributes to half of child deaths
and every day
we support communities in 40 countries to monitor children’s growth rates

Every day
In Europe and Central Asia over one million children live in institutions
and every day
we work with partners to reach 150,000 orphaned and vulnerable children, in Zambia alone
