My name is Ewan McGregor and I’ve been a UNICEF Ambassador since 2004. Recently I was shocked to see reports in the news of the food crisis in Ethiopia. Since January, increasing food prices and the failure of crops have been taking their toll on the children of Ethiopia.

Right now, over 4 million people in the Ethiopia are in immediate need of humanitarian aid. Hundreds of thousands of children in drought-affected areas are starving and require immediate therapeutic care in order to survive.

Since 2004, UNICEF has been providing supplementary feeding and vaccinations for children under-five. This has already saved many lives, but these activities are now under threat due to a lack of funds. UNICEF is appealing for £25 million to increase its response to the current crisis and prevent children’s deaths from severe malnutrition.

I’ve been privileged to see UNICEF’s work first-hand in Ethiopia and remember the people and children with great fondness. When I heard about the children who are now suffering I felt I had to do something.
