Check Out for Children
Check Out for Children is a partnership between Unicef and Starwood Hotels & Resorts. The partnership supports water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects across Africa and the Middle East.
Launched in 1995, Check Out for Children is one of our longest standing and most successful partnerships. Guests at Starwood Hotels are invited to add US$1 (or the equivalent in local currency) to their bill upon check out, as a donation to Unicef .
Whilst Check Out for Children is the foundation of the partnership, Starwood Hotels & Resorts also support Unicef through their fantastic Road to Awareness employee fundraising campaign and their Make a Green Choice sustainability initiative.
In 2015 Unicef and Starwood Hotels & Resorts celebrated 20 years of partnership and said thank you to guests and employees who together have raised over $35 million to help Unicef improve the lives of more than 4.5 million children in over 40 countries across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
Between 2015 and 2017, all funds raised through the partnership will help Unicef provide clean drinking water and proper sanitation facilities for children and families across Africa and the Middle East.
Road to Awareness
The Road to Awareness employee fundraising campaign launched in 2008 and has now raised over $5 million thanks to the incredible support and enthusiasm of Starwood employees. Every year employees throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East organise fundraising events to help raise vital funds for Unicef’s work for children.
Make a Green Choice
Make a Green Choice was launched in 2013 and allows guests to take a more active role in preserving natural resources during their stay. Guests at selected Starwood Hotels & Resorts can choose to decline daily housekeeping services, helping to save both water and energy. In return, guests can choose a reward and one of these is Starwood making a donation on their behalf to Unicef.
