The Together for Tomorrow – Joint Education and Environment Ministers Summit was a welcome and important part of COP26, and we congratulate the UK, Italy, and partners on their delivery of this event. Spotlighting education at COP is not only welcome but critical for tackling the climate crisis. And the pledges set out by countries from around the world demonstrate the wide and growing awareness of the critical links between education and climate change.

But Ministerial Summits must always be the start – rather than the end – of action. It’s crucial that the Department for Education continues to prioritise climate education, ensuring climate is embedded across the curriculum and that the Department’s forthcoming sustainability and climate change strategy recognises, and supports teaching of, the impacts of climate change on children’s rights.
