Create a school-wide Girls' Education Declaration
In June 2021, the leaders of the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the USA will meet in Cornwall to work together to discuss issues around the world at a summit called the G7 (Group of 7)
2021 is an important year for the UK because our Government has the G7 Presidency, meaning we are leading these meetings. Girls’ education is a priority for the UK Government and we expect it to feature in discussions at the Summit.
In order to think about how we can all help realise the right to education for every girl, we are asking Rights Respecting Schools to create their own Girls’ Education Declaration. We are asking teachers to work with their classes to set out:
- the challenges that girls’ face in accessing education and why it’s important;
- what they will do in their school to support girls’ education; and
- their calls for G7 leaders to take action on girls’ education.
Instructions on how to complete the Declaration are included in this template. Before completing the activity, please share this letter with parents and carers so they are clear about the activity.
Once your school has finished its Declaration, please send it to us. We will collect these Declarations and share them with the UK Government in order to ensure that the officials working on global education policy and commitments for the G7 will have heard from children and young people in the UK about what is important to them. The Declarations may also be used in communications materials, either from UNICEF UK or from the UK Government. Please ensure there is no personal identifiable information (such as names or ages of students) included in the Declarations you send to us. If you do not wish for us to share your school’s Declaration in this way, simply complete the activity but do not share it with us.
If you would like your school’s Declaration to be shared with the UK Government, please complete this activity and send the Declaration to us by Friday, 28 May 2021.
