Videos created by Rights Respecting Schools

Many schools have created their own videos or songs about children’s rights and global citizenship in the context of their rights respecting work.

Uplands Junior School

A year 5 pupil at Uplands Junior School created this stop-motion animation inspired by the work his class have done on Air Pollution as part of their involvement in the OutRight campaign 2018. Find out more about the RRSA work of Uplands Junior School online.

James Brindley Academy

Staff and students at James Brindley created this video to celebrate reaching Silver. This great film shows the impact of learning about rights on a wide group of young people.


Goals of Education

Two artists worked with a group of pupils at Aycliffe Community Primary School, Kent, to create a stop-motion animation based around the Article 29, Goals of Education.

A Day for Change

The Mount Stewart Infants Rights Respecting Ambassadors really wanted to create their own short motion animation to include in our whole school assembly.

Following a planning session the Mount Stweart Ambassadors, from reception, year one and year two, met to watch Wesley and Jacob’s story .

The children were supported to produce a script and draw the characters.  The children the character names as well as the name of the fictional Unicef hospital.  They cut the characters out, then helped take each still photo that makes up the animation. Finally, they recorded their voices and helped to edit the final animation.

The whole-school presentation, where the final film was premiered was fantastic, with all the children talking about bringing in a £1 for Unicef to help malnourished children in other parts of the world.

A family fleeing war in Syria

Crystal Class (Y1) from Mount Stewart Infants created a short motion animation to support our class assembly theme on ‘proud to be me’. The children thought about how they have helped their friends, in particular, new children that join them in class. The emphasis of the animation was to promote empathy and awareness of children around the world who are suffering from war. Our children were engaged and produced some thought provoking responses such as: ‘why do people hurt the children?’ and ‘how do adults help all the children?’ The animation involved using the app ‘Movie Maker’ with lots of still photos being taken with the children moving each character into position (a bit like a moving picture book). Crystal Class children created each character by first talking about who they wanted to create, then drawing them, cutting them out and then finally recording their voices to include them in the final animation. This was a fantastic way of bringing global awareness of the plight of refugee children into a primary classroom.

“A short film about Names” by Aycliffe Community Primary School

The film was created in school as an anti-bullying teaching aid. The main pupils involved in the making of the film were in Years 5&6, with additional children sharing their names. The pupils discussed ideas with the artists and worked in collaboration. The school recognised the opportunity for a learning link between Article 7 and name calling.

The film has inspired other filming projects within school including our online safety warriors who made a film to show children and visitors how to stay safe online. The school want to share the film to help other children respect Article 7 and understand the importance of calling everyone by their name.

Know Your Rights: a mannequin challenge video by Hazeley Academy

Students at Hazeley Academy created a mannequin challenge to illustrate rights within the Convention.

The Best We Can Be – by pupils, staff and parents from Wood End Infant School in Ealing

This song was written by the children (with some help from songwriters Tim Godwin and Tom Billington) about what children’s rights mean to them.

We’ve All Got Rights – by Crosby High School, Liverpool

‘We’ve all got rights’ is a fantastic song and animation by children and staff from Crosby High School, a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School in Liverpool.

Torriano Primary School and the World’s Largest Lesson

Children and teachers at  made this great video to highlight some of the new Global Goals as part of their World’s Largest Lesson.

The Regis School and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

This great video by the Regis School, a Level 2 Rights Respecting School, explains what the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is.

Hollie explains: “We wanted to help students in our school who were less involved with the rights-respecting work when it started as well as those who were new to the school so we decided we would make a short film to explain the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. I was lucky enough to be chosen to help present and create the film, and with the help from staff at The Regis School, we produced this video. I hope it inspires you as much as it has inspired students, staff and parents at our school.”

The Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill in Southampton – “The Boy With Two Eyes”.

The Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill in Southampton, which has achieved a Recognition of Commitment, produced this short film entitled “The Boy With Two Eyes”. The script for the short film was taken from the Rights Respecting Schools resources “Thinking Rights – What Happens When Rights Seem to Conflict”.

The film was produced by Danny Sturrock (Writer, Director and Editor from the South Coast of England), Mark Wheeller (Executive Director of Arts at the Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill) and a small group of Year 7.
