The Global Learning Programme is a UK-wide initiative that supports schools to develop their teaching of global issues and offer children and young people the opportunity to learn about the world around them.

The Rights Respecting Schools initiative has strong links with the Global Learning Programme in each home nation and many Rights Respecting Schools have already joined this network of like-minded schools. Working with your Global Learning Programme can also help you in your Rights Respecting work.

Global Learning Programme in England

The Global Learning Programme (GLP) England is creating a national network of like-minded schools in England, committed to equipping their pupils to succeed in a globalised world by helping their teachers to deliver effective teaching and learning about development and global issues at Key Stages 2 and 3. There are different ways to get involved and you can register for free online. It is easy to access and would be supported by work completed as part of the Rights Respecting Schools Award.

The GLP is designed to link with the RRSA, either as a stepping stone into the GLP, or as a development from it. This mapping document shows how the RRSA supports the GLP criteria.

GLP Expert Centres: Rights Respecting Schools can also become GLP Expert Centres. Expert Centres are schools that have a passion and expertise for global learning and use their knowledge and expertise to build a network of local schools interested in using global learning to develop pupils’ knowledge, skills and values. Expert Centres can also get funding to deliver the programme and grow a network of local schools.

GLP e-credits: GLP schools can use their GLP e-credits to book their regional courses with RRSA.
