Sam Thompson's Match Ball Mission
for Soccer Aid
Sam Thompson is taking on his mammoth Match Ball Mission for one reason, and one reason only. To support children to grow up safe, healthy and able to play.
When Sam goes the distance from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford, he’ll be supporting Soccer Aid for UNICEF to go the distance for children everywhere. Sam’s challenge will need every ounce of physical and mental strength he can muster, but he’s facing it head on for children facing conflict, hunger, crisis or illness around the world.
Sam is tackling his gruelling 260-mile challenge to help ensure children everywhere have the chance to play. Being able to play is so much more than fun and games. It’s how children learn, explore and build healthy relationships. But it’s hard for children to play when they live in a conflict zone, are sick from hunger, fighting disease or left homeless through a disaster. Every punishing mile Sam covers will support UNICEF’s work protecting play for children worldwide.
Sam is more motivated than ever to complete his Match Ball Mission after his recent trip to Guatemala to see UNICEF’s work first hand, and the vital difference funds raised can make helping children have the best possible start in life.
Sam visited the Juego Limpio ‘Fair Play’ football programme in Solola, Guatemala where UNICEF-trained volunteers work with children aged five to 16, many of whom don’t have access to some of the services they need to survive and thrive. The programme provides a safe space to play, using the power of sport to promote values such as respect, equality, and teamwork.
By supporting Sam, you’ll help make every mile worthwhile. Join Sam’s support crew and donate now.
