We are extremely concerned by the continuing violence in Gaza

Over 30,000 people have been killed in Gaza, 70% of whom are women and children. We continue to call for a complete and immediate ceasefire and for the killing and targeting of all children to stop.

Over 1.7 million people, half of them children, have had to leave their homes as a result of the violence in Gaza following the brutal attacks in Israel on  7  October.

The entire population of Gaza is facing extreme shortages of food and there is a risk of famine in the coming months. This man-made humanitarian crisis is taking a terrible toll on the lives of children and families. There are no safe spaces in Gaza.

Hunger in Gaza

At least 23 children have died from malnutrition and dehydration in Northern Gaza. Furthermore, there have been reports that all families are skipping meals and adults are choosing to go hungry so their children can eat.

The number of mothers breastfeeding– already low before the crisis – has declined. An increased number of infants now rely on formula milk for survival.

These conditions are simply intolerable. Please donate to help children and babies in Gaza receive the nutrition support they need to survive and grow up healthy.

Children and families need clean water

Over 80% of households lack safe and clean water. The average household has less than 1 litre per person per day, for washing, cooking and drinking.

Without the clean water needed to safely prepare formula milk, children will be at a higher risk of infection and malnutrition.

Help us reach more children in the State of Palestine

3.1 million people are in need nationally. Despite the dangerous situation, we continue to deliver life-saving supplies and services such as medicine, nutrition supplies, and clean water. However, this meets only a tiny proportion of the need.

As supplies and living conditions quickly decline, we need your donations to help us reach more children.

To help us meet the needs of children and families in Gaza, we are calling for:

  • Increased access for trucks bringing life-saving supplies into Gaza.
  • Protection and access for those delivering aid.
  • An immediate, long-lasting humanitarian ceasefire.
  • More than anything, the children of the State of Palestine and Israel need a lasting political solution to the crisis, so that they can grow up in peace and free from the shadow of violence

We are calling for the immediate end of hostilities, and for all parties to unconditionally protect children from harm no matter who or where they are.

We are an impartial, non-political humanitarian organisation. While we continue to report on and advocate for the protection of all children in both Gaza and Israel, our humanitarian response is driven by the need.

Before this renewed violence, one million children needed humanitarian aid in Gaza and the West Bank. In high-income countries such as Israel, the State usually provides the supplies and services for children that we undertake or supports in lower income countries.

There is a National Committee for UNICEF in Israel – the Israeli Fund for UNICEF – that works to promote and raise awareness of children’s rights in Israel and to raise funds for our work across the world.  You can find out more about its work here.

UNICEF has an ongoing humanitarian programme in Gaza and has continued to provide supplies and services during the escalation of hostilities.

Alongside our partners, we have helped:

  • 1.3 million people access safe drinking water
  • 520,000 people, including 8,700 newborn babies benefit from Interagency Emergency Health Kits
  • 158 severely malnourished and 554 moderately malnourished people receive treatment
  • 3,700 girls received Adolescent Girls Personal Care kits to support their wellbeing through women-led organisations
  • 6,000 children received vaccines during inter-agency hospital visits

UNICEF moved 32 trucks into the Gaza Strip between 21 October and 15 February.  Priority items include:

  • WASH sanitation/consumables (hygiene kits, dignity kits, chlorination tablets etc)
  • nutrition
  • winter clothing and winter materials
  • Shelter (tarpaulin)
  • health supplies (including vaccines and neonatal incubators)

You can help us reach more children affected by the crisis. Please donate today and help us protect children in Gaza and the wider State of Palestine.

For the first 6 months, monthly donations made to this appeal will go towards funding our work to support children in Gaza and the wider State of Palestine. After that, donations will go to support our work around the world.

In the unlikely event that the funds raised exceed what’s needed for the appeal, we will direct any excess funds to support our work to help keep children safe and healthy around the world.
