Afghanistan was already one of the toughest places on earth to be a child. Right now, the situation is desperate

Political instability, an economic crisis, drought, and COVID-19 have collided to create an unprecedented humanitarian emergency. Now, children and families will face freezing winter months when temperatures can drop as low as -12°c.

Around 10 million children across Afghanistan urgently need humanitarian assistance to survive. Without urgent action, almost one million children could be severely malnourished in the coming weeks. That is half of all children under the age of 5.

They need protection and assistance now.

UNICEF is in Afghanistan for vulnerable children and their families. We’re delivering essential health supplies, water and lifesaving food, as well as providing supplies to help displaced families prepare for the onset of a harsh winter. We’re also advocating for the rights of children in Afghanistan, including the right for all children to have an education.

Thanks to the help of UNICEF’s supporters, in 2021, we’ve already reached 1.7 million children and their families with humanitarian support.

But, we simply don’t have enough funds to reach every child in danger. We need your help to continue to provide essential life-saving supplies to the children who need it the most.

Help us reach every child in danger. Please donate now to protect children in Afghanistan.

From 12th April- 12th June all the money generously donated to UNICEF UK fundraising appeals will be celebrated in our Soccer Aid annual totaliser. Celebrating all these donations as one total as part of Soccer Aid will in no way impact where your donation goes to – a donation to our Afghanistan appeal will still go to that specific cause.

Soccer Aid for UNICEF is the world’s biggest celebrity football match, broadcast on ITV, supporting our amazing work around the world.

Donating by phone

If you’re in the UK and would prefer to make a donation by phone, you can call our dedicated donation line: 0300 330 5699.

You can help us reach more children affected by the crisis. Please donate today and help us protect children in Afghanistan.

For the first 12 months, monthly donations made to this appeal will go towards funding UNICEF’s work to support children in Afghanistan. After that donations will go to our Children’s Emergency Fund, to save and protect children in emergencies around the world. In the unlikely event that the funds raised exceed UNICEF’s funding requirements for this appeal, your one off or monthly gift will also go to our Children’s Emergency Fund.
