A powerful 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck northern Venezuela on the evening of the 24th of June 2026, followed less than a minute later by a second, even stronger 7.5 quake.

Homes and buildings have collapsed across affected areas, including Caracas and La Guaira, leaving families in urgent need of clean water and medical care.

Early reports indicate hundreds of people, including children, have been killed and many more injured. These figures are expected to rise as search-and-rescue operations continue and the full impact of the earthquakes becomes clear.

Local UNICEF teams are on the ground working to deliver urgent, life-saving support to children and families.
