Myanmar Earthquake
Appeal
Donate to help us reach more children and families in Myanmar
The earthquake that struck Myanmar in May 2025 was the most powerful earthquake since 1912.
Two million people are in immediate need of humanitarian assistance, contributing to a staggering total of 6.9 million children who need support.
Water systems were severely damaged, leaving millions of people without clean water. As a result, the risk and spread of waterborne diseases have increased.
Our emergency response is focused on ensuring children and families have access to:
- Safe water
- Hygiene kits
- Tents
- Education
- Medical care
Donate now to help children in Myanmar recover from the devastating effects of this earthquake.
What is happening in Myanmar?
Shortly after the earthquakes struck on 28th March 2025, Myanmar’s National Disaster Management Committee declared a state of emergency in multiple earthquake-affected areas, including Mandalay, Sagaing, and Magway.
As a result, with the country almost in its fifth year of escalating conflict, millions of children are living in fear, displacement, and poverty.
The devastation caused by the earthquakes has worsened an already dire situation in Myanmar, further adding to the urgent needs of children.
How to help children in Myanmar?
The best way to help Myanmar and the children in crisis is by supporting our appeal. Our teams are responding in affected areas, working closely with UN agencies, partners and local communities.
Monthly gifts help us and our partners respond quickly to emergencies and support long-term recovery. For example, just £5 could provide 1,600 water purification tablets to purify water.
Donate monthly today to provide life-saving support to children and families.
How is UNICEF supporting children and families in Myanmar?
We were the first humanitarian support organisation to land a flight with vital life-saving supplies in Myanmar for children and families following the earthquake.
These are some of the ways we are responding alongside our partners — but we need your support to protect more children:
- Reaching 600,000 people with temporary access to safe water.
- Providing healthcare services to 50,983 people, including 23,612 children.
- Supporting families in the worst-affected areas with cash transfers.
- Delivering essential learning supply kits to support children’s continuous learning.
With your donations, we can continue to support children in Myanmar. Please donate today.
UNICEF Health and Nutrition Specialist May May Khin distributes Newborn Kits and Clean Delivery Kits to pregnant women in the Amarapura township, Mandalay Region. These essential supplies are part of our earthquake response, helping mothers safely deliver and care for their babies. Many months on, many families are still living in temporary shelters, struggling with limited income, unsafe water, and ongoing hardship — but this support ensures mothers and newborns are not left behind.

After that, donations will go to support our work around the world. In the unlikely events of funds raised exceeding what is needed, or if funds cannot viably be directed to this appeal, we will direct funds to support our work to help keep children safe and healthy around the world.
