On 24 June, two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela just seconds apart, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude. More than 6,000 people have been killed, and tens of thousands have been injured. 23,000 people are still living in temporary camps.

The earthquakes caused widespread damage in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, and in densely populated urban areas across the north-central states of Aragua, Carabobo, Falcón, La GuairaMiranda and Yaracuy.

Homes were destroyed in an instant, forcing families to sleep in overcrowded shelters or in open spaces.

1.3 million people, including 650,000 children, need humanitarian assistance.

Venezuela was already facing several overlapping pressures, including a severe economic crisis, geopolitical tensions, and climate-related disasters. Families who were struggling to afford essentials, including food and medicine, have been pushed into an even deeper crisis.

Your donation can help children in Venezuela regain a sense of normality and continue building a brighter future. Just £10 a month could help families purify water for drinking and washing by providing 3,300 water purification tablets.

Please donate to our Venezuela earthquakes appeal today.

How are we helping children in Venezuela?

Initially, our immediate response focused on providing the following support to children and families:

  • medical care
  • protection services
  • emotional support
  • safe water
  • hygiene supplies

Right now, we are working closely with partners to provide long-term support to children and families affected by the earthquakes. We aim to reach 470,000 people, including 169,000 children, to help them on the road to recovery. To do so, we need sustained support from our donors and partners.

Please donate to help us reach more children in Venezuela now.

How to donate to Venezuela

The best way to donate to Venezuela is through a monthly direct debit.

We respond in moments of crisis, but we also stay for the long term, helping to build safer, healthier futures for children everywhere.

A monthly donation enables us to provide continuous support to children when they need it most, through vital food, access to healthcare and a safe space to play. Children should not have to live in fear of natural disasters. Your donation can help protect children in Venezuela.

For the first 3 months, monthly donations made to the appeal will go towards funding our work to support children affected by the humanitarian crises in Venezuela, including the recent earthquakes. After that, donations will go to support our work around the world. Any Gift Aid claimed on donations made to this appeal will support UNICEF’s work around the world.

In the unlikely event that the funds raised exceed what’s needed for the Venezuela earthquakes appeal, we will direct any excess funds to support our work to help keep children safe and healthy around the world.
