How does UNICEF help children living in conflict?
1 in 5 children around the world are growing up in conflict.
Millions of children are caught up in conflicts they did not ask for or create, enduring violence that no child should ever have to face.
Children living in war zones are faced with unimaginable horrors and are often forced to flee their homes to find safety.
The basics of childhood – school, play, and safety – are lost to bombs and bullets. Hospitals are targeted. Children live in fear of being injured or killed every day.
Childhood shouldn’t look like this. No child should have to grow up in fear.
We work tirelessly to help rebuild childhoods in the toughest conditions.
What your support makes possible
The number of countries in active armed conflict is at its highest in 30 years. At UNICEF, we are among the first to respond when a child’s right to a safe, healthy and happy childhood is under threat.
But conflict makes it harder to reach children safely. Access changes fast, supply routes break down. Delays pile up. It takes more resources, planning to reach families safely. To add to that, there are increasingly growing attacks on humanitarian workers.
Working alongside our partners, we deliver urgent, life-saving support to children and families affected by conflict in places like Gaza (Palestine), Sudan, Ukraine, Yemen, Lebanon, Myanmar, Haiti, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and beyond.
With your help, we can provide children and their families with access to:
- Clean, safe water, helping to prevent disease outbreaks that often follow conflict.
- Life-saving nutrition
- Education and school supplies, including accessibility aids, ensuring children can continue to learn.
- Vaccinations to prevent disease
- Child protection services to keep children safe from violence, abuse and exploitation.

£10 a month could provide enough life-saving therapeutic food to treat a malnourished child for a week.
Through the month of May all the money generously donated to UNICEF UK fundraising appeals will be celebrated in our Soccer Aid annual totaliser. Every donation will be doubled – up to £6 million – thanks to the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation.
