Donate to protect children from malnutrition

Every day, children around the world face hunger, illness and malnutrition.

The global food crisis, driven by conflict, rising food prices and the climate emergency, is hitting children hardest.

Malnutrition is one of the greatest threats to a child’s life. Globally, 1 in 5 deaths among young children is due to severe wasting.

One of the world’s most important inventions fits in the palm of your hand. Ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) is a life-saving treatment for children with severe malnutrition.

It’s a high-energy peanut paste packed with the nutrients a child needs to recover. It comes in small sachets and can help a child recover from malnutrition in a matter of weeks.

£10 a month over a year could help treat three children with malnutrition

Help us deliver life-saving support

Malnutrition is preventable. With the right nutrition, children can grow, learn and thrive. Through the Child Nutrition Fund, UNICEF is helping more children access the nutrition support they need. We respond immediately with life-saving assistance, and we provide long-term support, including:

  • Detecting children at risk before malnutrition becomes severe
  • Providing life-saving therapeutic food
  • Supporting community health workers and families with guidance
  • Improving access to health and nutrition services
  • Reaching children during emergencies
  • Building stronger nutrition systems for the future

We urgently need your help to reach children and families affected by malnutrition. Please donate to our Child Nutrition Fund appeal today.

Meet H'Núi

H’Núi, aged three, has a contagious laugh and a bright smile. She lives with her mother, Rahlan H’Bu, in Gia Lai province, Vietnam.

She was diagnosed with moderate stunting and moderate underweight, with her height and weight falling below World Health Organization growth standards for children her age.

Without timely support, she could have been at risk of acute malnutrition.

Last year’s typhoons and floods in Ia Tul commune, Gia Lai province, made it even harder for H’Núi’s family to keep H’Núi well-nourished. Forced to evacuate, they spent days surviving on scarce, low-nutrient food.

As part of UNICEF’s emergency response, H’Núi’s family received cash assistance, nutrition supplements and feeding support.

Children recovering from acute malnutrition need ongoing support to prevent relapse.

We help strengthen local health systems and ensure nutrition services remain available before, during and after emergencies.

H’Núi’s recovery journey is just beginning, but small moments offer hope for the future. “I just hope she doesn’t get sick as often and can do well in school one day,” her mother H’Bu says.

How to donate to prevent and treat child malnutrition worldwide

We respond in moments of crisis, but we also stay for the long term, helping to build safer, healthier futures for children everywhere.

A monthly donation enables us to provide continuous support to children when they need it most, with life-saving treatment, supporting families and strengthening nutrition services around the world.

Your donation can help protect children affected by malnutrition worldwide. However, you choose to donate, you will be helping to make a difference to the lives of children.

For the first 3 months, your monthly donation will go towards funding our work to support nutrition. After that, donations will go to support our work around the world. Any Gift Aid claimed on donations made to this appeal will support UNICEF’s work around the world.
