The award programme

A Rights Respecting School not only teaches about children’s and human rights but also models rights and respect in all its relationships: teacher/adults-pupils; pupils- teacher/adults; pupils-pupils.

The Award programme is complementary to the Healthy Schools Award and Eco Schools and can be part of a programme to build a positive school ethos. All the necessary resources needed to prepare and enter for the Award will be published on a dedicated website under construction - click here for more information.

Please send an email if you are interested in the scheme and would like more information.

Further information

The Rights Respecting Schools website is under development. It is an exciting and collaborative Virtual Learning Environment. The website enables individuals, schools, higher education and Local Authorities to sign up and get involved. Once signed up, you receive a password and have access to all the information and the collaborative learning environment.

The Award is open for all schools: nursery, first, primary, middle, secondary and special.

For a school to receive the RRS Award, they must show evidence that they have reached the required Standard in each of four aspects, all of which contain elements contributing to the development of an active global citizen:

1. Leadership and management for embedding the values of the UNCRC in the life of the school.

2. Knowledge and understanding of the UNCRC.

3. Rights respecting classrooms.

4. Pupils actively participate in decision-making throughout the school.

Schools that meet the Rights Respecting School criteria will receive our Rights Respecting School Award certificate and digital logo.
