This short film is a thought-provoking reflection on the importance of equality, non-discrimination and pride.

The animation is inspired by a book The Flamingo Who Didn’t Want To Be Pink written by Nicola Stone, a teacher at William Tyndale School – a Gold Rights Respecting school in London.

Year 4 children worked with animators Lizzy Hobbs, Wendy Scott and John Harmer, to tell the story of a flamingo chick uncomfortable in her own skin.

The animation and the book reminds us that we cannot truly be happy if we are not free, and at the heart of this story is the message that freedom, whether of choice or existence, should never be restricted on any basis. The book can be purchased online and makes a great resource for learning about inclusion, equality and non-discrimination in lessons with younger children.
