A Rights Respecting Year

to help your planning

To help you plan, we’ve mapped out what a school year might look like for a UNICEF UK Rights Respecting School.

This includes activities to help you progress your Rights Respecting journey throughout the year, get the most out of your RRSA membership or to get more involved in UNICEF’s work.

Autumn term

☑️ Kick off the year with OutRight resources. Sign up if you haven’t done so yet.

OutRight is a UNICEF UK annual youth campaign exploring topics that matter to children and young people. In 2023/24 we’re looking at climate change in a campaign filled with hope and solutions. By participating, you’ll get access to learning activities, presentations and facilitator resources, plus support from us.

☑️ Join the RRSA conference.

On 3 October 2024, we’re holding our virtual UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award conference. Join us for a chance to hear from people from UNICEF and the world of education about the impact of their Rights Respecting work.

☑️ Celebrate World Children’s Day on 20 November.

Every November, we celebrate World Children’s Day, the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. We turn the world blue in support of children’s rights and provide platforms to raise the voices of children and young people on the issues they care about. You can take this opportunity to organise a rights respecting event at your school – we’ll share some ideas in a toolkit for schools closer to the day.

☑️ Sign up for Soccer Aid Academy

Are you looking for a fun and meaningful activity to get the school together, promote children’s rights and change lives of children around the world? Soccer Aid Academy might just fit the bill. You can organise your challenge during summer term in May or whenever works for you.

Spring and Summer terms

☑️ May: Have you completed your Soccer Aid Academy?

☑️ Start signing up for the next OutRight campaign.

☑️ Sign up for the next RRSA conference.

Throughout the year

☑️ The schedule of upcoming Spotlight packs can also help you plan your rights respecting year.

☑️ Include Article of the Week in your teaching and learning for the year.

☑️ Have you made the most of your RRSA membership and attended training courses and support workshops with our team? We hold these every month and add new dates regularly.

☑️ Are you ready for your Silver or Gold accreditation? Get in touch with your Professional Adviser and book your visit well in advance to ensure we can accommodate it and you have time to prepare. Avoid the summer term if possible as this is our busiest time.

☑️ You’ll also receive newsletters with latest updates throughout the year, usually at the beginning and end of each term.
