URGENT APPEAL FOR CHILDREN AFFECTED BY THE LIBYA CRISIS

UNICEF is urgently appealing for funds to meet the needs of children and women affected by the ongoing violence in Libya.

Over 700,000 people have now fled the country, mainly into neighbouring Tunisia and Egypt. As the conflict continues growing numbers of Libyans are fleeing the country with their families, bringing with them vulnerable women and children. Children as young as nine months old have been killed and many more have been injured in the violence. Thousands of children are suffering from trauma and are in need of food and safe water.

UNICEF has delivered supplies to the beseiged city of Misrata in Libya including emergency health kits, food rations, hygiene kits and play kits. In Eastern Libya, we've delivered health kits to benefit 60,000 people and hygiene kits to benefit 15,000 people through our local partners in Benghazi. We are working in temporary camps near the Tunisian and Egyptian borders to provide children and families with their own safe spaces, safe water and proper sanitation and access to counsellors. We are also vaccinating children against the main killer diseases. But there is much more still to do.

Please donate now to help UNICEF continue to reach children affected.

Over the next 12 months your gift will be used specifically to protect children in Libya. After that it will be spent where the need is greatest
