Happy Birthday, Dear Happy

In February 2006 prize-winning author and UNICEF Ambassador for Literature Andrew O’Hagan visited Namasimba Child Centre in Malawi with UNICEF. While he was there, he met children who had been orphaned or made vulnerable by HIV and were learning to cope without their parents.

Happy Birthday, Dear Happy is a fictional story inspired by the children he met. It reflects the reality of life for children caught up in this global pandemic. But it also shows that for children orphaned by AIDS the world over, there is a solution and there is hope.
