HSBC’s Disaster
Relief Partnership

Helping communities prepare for disasters
and providing rapid relief when emergencies strike

Why we’re working together

When disasters strike, UNICEF responds quickly, flexibly and at scale. We also work with communities before crises occur, helping them prepare and reduce the impact of emergencies.

In an uncertain world, multiple overlapping crises mean that more than 200 million children are estimated to need humanitarian support this year. Being able to respond to global disasters quickly and effectively is vital.

HSBC has committed $4.5 million in funding over 18 months to UNICEF, the British Red Cross and Save the Children. Together the three organizations will combine their global reach, local expertise and decades of humanitarian experience to support children and communities before, during and after emergencies.

What we are doing

Over 18 months, HSBC’s Disaster Relief Partnership will support UNICEF, the British Red Cross and Save the Children to respond rapidly and provide relief when disasters occur.

It will also fund anticipatory action in at-risk communities, in countries like Bangladesh and Viet Nam. This includes investment in early-warning systems and first-responder training, so people are better prepared before a crisis hits.

What we will achieve:

By supporting both preparedness and rapid emergency response, HSBC’s Disaster Relief Partnership aims to help save lives and build stronger, more resilient communities.

UNICEF is there before, during, and after emergencies. Speed and scale save lives in a crisis. Anchored by the world's largest humanitarian warehouse, UNICEF responds at pace whenever disaster strikes. Essential partners like HSBC give us vital, flexible funding needed to act fast - helping communities to prepare for, withstand and recover from emergencies.
