Why we’re working together
GARDENA UK and UNICEF are working together to help ensure more children and families have access to clean and safe water, basic sanitation and good hygiene practices.
Building on GARDENA’s long‑standing global partnership with UNICEF since 2018, GARDENA UK is joining forces with UNICEF UK in 2026 as part of the “Growing Futures, one drop at a time” campaign. This partnership reinforces a shared responsibility to protect water as a precious resource and to improve access to life‑sustaining WASH services for children and families around the world.
Since the partnership began in 2018, support from GARDENA has helped UNICEF advance its global efforts to expand access to clean, safe water and hygiene services for children and families in vulnerable communities. Building on this progress, the collaboration continues with renewed ambition and a shared commitment to drive meaningful, long-term change. Together, the partnership aims to help provide 355,000 children and families in high-need regions with access to clean, safe water by the end of 2026.
What we’re doing
Access to safe water and adequate sanitation remains one of the most pressing challenges facing children today. Globally, 1 in 4 people – around 2.1 billion individuals – still lack access to safely managed drinking water services. As climate change intensifies droughts, flooding and water insecurity, children shoulder the greatest burden.
Through flexible funding provided by partners like GARDENA, UNICEF is able to direct resources where they are needed most. This includes:
- Improving water infrastructure and expanding access to safe drinking water
- Increasing essential sanitation services for families and communities
- Delivering hygiene education to support healthier daily behaviours
- Strengthening emergency response efforts in crisis‑affected regions
These interventions help prevent disease, improve health outcomes and enable children to grow, learn and thrive.
Throughout 2026, the partnership will also raise awareness of global water scarcity and champion more conscious water use at home. By connecting everyday habits with global water challenges, the campaign encourages people to recognise the true value of water and the role each of us can play in safeguarding it.
What we will achieve:
Based on the partnership’s expected 2026 impact and the global programme it supports, UNICEF and GARDENA aim to:
- Extend access to clean and safe water for thousands of families in high‑need regions
- Strengthen community resilience to droughts, floods and climate‑related water insecurity
- Improve hygiene practices through education and behaviour‑change initiatives
- Raise awareness of water scarcity and encourage more mindful water use at home and globally
330,000 children and families already reached with WASH services since 2018.
