Remember someone special with a gift in their memory

Home > Why donate to Unicef? > Give in memory

A gift in memory of a loved one is a wonderful tribute to their life, and a touching way to help our work for children in danger around the world. Gifts given in tribute help our work to reach the most vulnerable and marginalised children all over the world, providing the help they need when they need it most.

A gift in memory of any size will help Unicef to change and transform the lives of children in danger around the world. There are lots different ways to give in tribute to a loved one to choose from, and simply get in contact with us and we would be delighted to answer any questions you may have about making a gift in memory.

Why I decided to give in memory

When young brothers, Peter, 4, and Christopher, 7, tragically lost their family friend Ehi, they decided to raise money for Unicef in his memory. Ehi became close to the family through playing rugby with Peter and Christopher’s father.  Unicef’s work for children was a cause close to Ehi’s heart so when he sadly died, the boys set off on a sponsored bike ride to honour their great friend.

Impressively, Christopher and Peter not only exceeded their joint five km target, but also beat their fundraising target of £250 by raising an amazing £430. The boys were astonished by the kind support they received from friends and family. “Ehi always brought a smile to my face,” said Christopher. And now, thanks to the boys’ efforts and their generous in memory donation, he will bring a smile to the faces of children around the world.

Christopher and Peter were delighted to have completed their cycle ride.

Continuing Margaret’s support

Margaret Meagher was one of the founder members of the Norwich Unicef Group, which formed in 1999.  When she died age 83, and in recognition of her commitment to the charity, Margaret’s family asked for donations to Unicef in her memory.

Margaret was a devoted supporter of Unicef, active in many fundraising activities from baking cakes, (her speciality was a Norfolk boiled fruit cake) to judging a children’s poetry competition. Margaret’s commitment to Unicef never faulted.

Through asking for donations to Unicef in memory of Margaret, her family were able to honour her unwavering support for the charity.
