Paddy Ashdown became a Unicef UK Ambassador in January 2016, after six years as President of Unicef UK.

During that time he worked tirelessly to support our work and has been an incredibly powerful advocate for children’s rights. He has seen Unicef programmes first hand in Ethiopia, South Africa and Liberia.

Most recently in 2014, Paddy visited Bangladesh to see a number of programmes including how fuel-efficient cook stoves were helping to prevent death and ill-health from respiratory diseases. During the trip he also met children supported by Unicef’s child protection workers and saw a swimming project where children are taught how to get to safety during severe flooding.

Speaking of his time as President, Paddy said: “I am so proud of my involvement with Unicef and with all of you. It is one of the most worthwhile things I have done in my life and I have enjoyed it immensely. Thank you for giving me this opportunity.”

In his new role, Lord Ashdown will continue to support Unicef’s fundraising and campaigning work for children worldwide.
