Why we’re working together

UNICEF and Vitality are working together to provide nutritious food for severely malnourished children. Right now around the world, five children die every minute as a result of malnutrition. Millions more live with the effects for the rest of their lives, because their bodies and brains haven’t developed the way they should.

Together with Vitality we are tackling this problem by treating severely malnourished children with high energy peanut paste. Packed full of vitamins, minerals, protein, fibre, iron and healthy fats, these ready-to-eat life-savers can bring a child back to health and help them to reach their full potential.

What we’re doing

UNICEF and Vitality have been working together since 2016 to provide therapeutic food for severely malnourished children. Vitality donates a days supply of lifesaving food on behalf of Vitality members making healthy food choices through their Vitality rewards programme.

When children get the right food at the right time their brains and bodies develop the way they should. When this doesn’t happen, malnutrition occurs. It robs children of their futures and threatens their lives.

What we’ve achieved

Since the partnership began, Vitality has helped provide over 1 million packs of peanut paste to treat children suffering from malnutrition. The high energy peanut paste can be eaten straight from the packet, providing a simple, effective treatment that can easily be delivered in any setting.

It’s cheap, easy to supply and can bring a severely malnourished child back to health in a matter of weeks.
