Joanna Rea, Director of Advocacy UNICEF UK says:

“The commitments made at today’s summit are welcome progress in global collaboration towards ending the COVID-19 pandemic for everyone. We now quickly need these pledges to become reality with immediate action in the days and months ahead.

“Earlier this year, the UK Government pledged 100 million vaccine doses by 2022. However, with a widening gap in vaccine access between rich and low-income countries and ongoing threats of the spread of variants, more needs to be done and vaccines shared sooner – and we know this is possible. UNICEF UK commissioned analysis shows that the UK can accelerate the volume and pace of doses shared up to and potentially more than 20 million doses each month for the rest of 2021 while still delivering its successful domestic vaccine roll out.

This will save lives, reopen economies and ensure essential education and health services can resume for the world’s children. It will put an end to this pandemic, for everyone, for good.”
